After reading my post a few days ago, some of the following thoughts may have crossed your mind.
• Are there reputable credit repairers in the marketplace?
• How much should I pay a credit repairer?
• Can I do my own credit repair?
• If I do my own credit repair where do I start?
Fist of all there are still many reputable credit repair companies. One problem is when people come into contact with credit repairers that only focus on short term credit score hikes or only helping people qualify for big ticket items such as a mortgage or car. When people discover this is only credit bandaging, they get upset and think all credit repairers are the same. As walls of distrust arise and are passed down to the next generation, it becomes more difficult for reputable firms to gain people’s trust.
It does not help people to develop trust when they can go on line and find credit repair pricing from $99 to $299 for a set of classes, cost from $300 to $1500 to write a few letters and in other cases $1500 to $4000. When this happens, people that do not have a clear understanding as to what is happening get confused and are prone to make a lot of costly mistakes.
When confusion or lack of knowledge rears its head, many people will also attempt to do their own credit repair themselves. The problem is not if they can do their own credit repair themselves, the issues are do they have the proper information to do it and do they want to put the effort in to do it themselves.
If you make a decision to do your own credit repair, the first thing you need to do is order your credit reports from www.annualcreditreports.com.
