Before I talk about one of those strategies I want to go over aomething that is not thought about by consumers.
This simple problem is that the nature of collecting debts is an adversarial one. What this means is that while most bill collectors are given multiple strategies to keep in control of the debt collection process, those strategies are also designed to make most debtors believe they are subordinate to bill collectors. It is a very subtle way of making bill collectors feel like they are the parent while making debtors feel that they are the children.
Because of this situation, the average debtor will react in the following ways. They will get into verbal confrontations with collectors, they try to abide with what a collector wants them to do or they will run and hide from them. Even is a collector is polite and never breaks any laws, if he or she is properly taught, they can legally scare the pants off a debtor.
If you are going to be successful in talking to a bill collector, you have to use your own strategies that fit your unique situation. The following is one way to fix this problem.In most cases you only want to talk to a collector by way of a hardship letter or script. This allows you to do some of the following things.
1. You will be able to take control of all conversations with bill collectors.
2. You will be able to say the same thing all the time to bill collectors.
3. You will no longer be badgered with the 5-40 questions that bill collectors have in
their arsenal.
