I hear the following statements a few times every month. Here is what people say to me. I believe I have bruised or bad credit. When I ask them have they pulled their credit reports or how do they know they have credit issues, many times they will make the next classic statement ( I just know that my credit is bad). If you are not sure how your credit is or need to find out what to do to fix it, there are some easy things you need to do. Let’s go over a few of them.
- Order your credit reports. That is the only way to truly determine what is going on.
- You will need to make a distinction between repairing your credit and restoring your credit. Repairing your credit is doing something about the bad stuff on your reports. Stuff like late payments, repossessions & charge offs. Restoring your credit involves things like low credit limits and how much you have charged on a particular account.
- As you are correcting these two areas, you should keep a written record of every thing you are doing. This shows you are creating a new history.
- While you are doing this, make sure you are paying your other accounts on time
- After you solve these problems, then you should start applying for new credit
