If you go on the Internet looking for ways to solve your debt collection problems, you will find all kinds of stuff. Just a few of them are:

• How to sue bill collectors and the firms they represent
• How to stop bill collectors from calling you
• How to verbally deal with collectors that are rude
• How you can be helped by debt management
• How bankruptcy might be your solution
• How you can be helped by debt consolidation

Although some of those things might be part of your solution, this is not where you should start. Unfortunately because some of the industries mentioned can have ulterior financial motives, they need to be investigated to determine if any of them fit into your financial situation.

People that have collection problems usually fit into the following two categories.

• They have had years of never having an account in collections, but due to a lost of
income, extreme medical bills, etc. they now have accounts in collections. In order
words they may have had 10-15 years of excellent payment and credit history but due to
some of the previous complications they now have bill collectors calling and writing
them. These types of people are actively looking for solutions.

• This second group of people that have collection issues usually fit into two categories.

1. They have problems budgeting.
2. They are people that are inflicted with a very bad ailment. It is called
procrastination. As long as they are able to continue their live styles, they will
have a tendency to make changes and then relapse again.

Instead of using excuses and alibis, people should look within themselves to find the causes as well as the solutions for their situations. Solving collection problems involves a lot of things. Some of them are:

• Changing their attitudes about debt
• Finding out what got them in debt
• Understanding how the debt collection process works
• Applying strategies to insure this will never happen again
