In the next few weeks I am going to discuss the legal system as it relates to debts that people have. Since I am not an attorney and there can be many exceptions when it relates to debt, I am going to keep this as simple as possible. Every year there are thousands of people that can avoid the legal system. Here are some things they can do.
- When they are ignorant regarding a debt situation, they should get the right person to help them. Unless a friend or relative has the knowledge and expertise needed, in most cases their advice should not be taken.
- Don’t put things off. Ex: They won’t sue me. I’ll take care of this in a few weeks.
- Don’t assume bankruptcy is the answer.
- Only trust debt collectors if their goals match your goals.
Next time we will talk about why people get sued and some simple strategies to keep this from happening.
